Stop special treatment, jail Arroyo – ANAKBAYAN

Youth group ANAKBAYAN today called on the government of President Noynoy Aquino to stop the “special treatment” it is affording former President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo and to immediately transfer Arroyo to a regular jail. This, amidst reports saying Arroyo no longer needs to be confined in a hospital.

According to Vencer Crisostomo, national chairperson of ANAKBAYAN, the special treatment being given by the government to Arroyo shows a “dangerous tendency.”

“It is interesting that while government is waging an all-out offensive against CJ Corona, Aquino is treating Arroyo like a VIP. What’s next, a ‘get-out-of-jail for free card’?” said Crisostomo.

Crisostomo said the people should watch out for concessions and agreements between Aquino and Arroyo.

“Nagsisimula yan sa ganyan, hospital arrest, VIP treatment. Sa susunod, dropping of some charges o kaya pardon. Di natin namamalayan makakatakas na ulit si Arroyo. Kung may magpapatakas kay Arroyo, yung kapabayaan at complicity ni Aquino yun,” said Crisostomo

Crisostomo said the public must be vigilant and must “learn from history.”

“It is the Arroyo government in power then which pardoned former president Estrada. The Marcoses have rehabilitated themselves and are now back in power. We see the same tendency now. Nagkokontsabahan sila, kasi ultimately, they belong to the same class,” he said.

Crisostomo also called on the Aquino government to immediately file cases of plunder, human rights violations, and crimes related to the 2004 elections.

“It must be noted that the government until now has yet to file charges of plunder, human rights violations, and charges related to ‘Hello Garci.’ Bakit hindi pa rin finifile iyan? Hindi kaya binibigyan ng butas si Arroyo para makatakas?” said Crisostomo.

Kick out Llamas

Meanwhile, Crisostomo criticized the Aquino government for crimes of impunity and corruption in its own government.

“Anti-corruption daw ang administrasyon pero pagdating sa kaibigan, kaklase, kabarilan, kinukunsinte,”  Crisostomo said, citing the case of Presidential Adviser Ronald Llamas, who was caught buying pirated DVDs and having in possession an AK-47.

ANAKBAYAN called on Aquino to “kick out” Llamas. Crisostomo said failure of Aquino to do so will further prove its insincerity in its anti-corruption campaign.

“Pag ganoon, unti-unting makikita ng tao na pareho lang sila ni Gloria,” said Crisostomo.
