Youth groups and students from the country’s biggest universities are joining the protest rally on September 21 amidst gov’t announcements canceling classes and government work on the same day.

“A broad front of youth and student formations has formed alongside the victims of Duterte’s ‘triple wars’ against the Filipino people,” said Anakbayan National Chairperson Vencer Crisostomo, in reference to Duterte’s “war on drugs”, the “all-out war” against the communist movement, and the anti-Moro “war on terror”.

“The recent ‘Duterte tricks’ – from threatening martial law against protests, declaring a national earthquake drill day, to the cancellation of classes – are all desperate moves to stop big protests in the context of the growing resistance to Duterte’s tyrannical rule,” said Crisostomo.

Major universities across country to join September 21 protest

In a statement, student councils and formations from major universities in the national capital and major urban centers across the country vowed to foil “Duterte tricks” and march with thousands of youth and students on September 21.

Youth and student groups in Metro Manila will hold walkouts and march to the gates of the Presidential Palace to hold protests 1:00PM on September 21 before marching to Luneta Park by 4:00 PM to join other sectors in the Movement Against Tyranny-led rally.

Joining the protests in the national capital are student formations from the University of the Philippines, University of Santo Tomas, Ateneo De Manila University, De La Salle University, St. Scholastica University, College of Saint Benilde, Far Eastern University, Philippine Normal University, Technological University of the Philippines, Polytechnic University of the Philippines, and the Eulogio “Amang” Rodriguez Institute of Science and Technology.

There are protest actions at UP Baguio, University of the Cordilleras, Saint Louis University, Cagayan State University, Isabela State University in Northern Luzon; UP Pampanga, Nueva Vizcaya State University, Pangasinan State University, and Bulacan State University in Central Luzon; UP Los Banos, Ateneo de Naga University in Southern Luzon; and Palawan State University in Palawan.

Anakbayan joins call to overthrow Duterte’s fascist regime

Saying the Duterte ruling clique is on the path of declaring nationwide martial law and making full use of the police and military apparatus to crush all dissent and carry out armed repression against the Filipino people, the youth group Anakbayan has raised the ante by calling for the overthrow of Duterte’s fascist regime.

“From the rehabilitation of the Marcoses, elimination of institutional checks with the P1,000 CHR budget and the SC Chief Justice impeachment, selecting barangay officials by appointment, reviving mandatory ROTC, imposing a national ID system, and charger change through his “supermajority” in Congress, Duterte is aiming to install himself as a fascist dictator like Marcos and Hitler,” said Crisostomo.

“Duterte has become the biggest threat to the lives, livelihood, and rights of the Filipino people. Duterte’s fascist regime must now be resisted and overthrown. Just as past generations marched in the streets to oppose the Marcos’ dictatorship, our generation will march again against Duterte’s rising dictatorship,” said Crisostomo.

Anakbayan called on the Filipino youth and people to stand up for the Filipino people’s rights and democratic interests and resist the return of dictatorial rule under the bloodthirsty Duterte’s fascist regime.
